NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Lauren Layne’s bestselling Oxford Series continues with the poignant, heartwarming story of New York’s most eligible bachelor, Lincoln Mathis, a man who’s living a lie—until his dream woman takes away the pain.

Lincoln Mathis doesn’t hide his reputation as Manhattan’s ultimate playboy. In fact, he cultivates it. But behind every flirtatious smile, each provocative quip, there’s a secret that Lincoln’s hiding from even his closest friends—a tragedy from his past that holds his heart quietly captive. Lincoln knows what he wants someone like Daisy Sinclair, the sassy, off-limits bridesmaid he can’t take his eyes off at his best friend’s wedding. He also knows that she’s everything he can never have.

After a devastating divorce, Daisy doesn’t need anyone to warn her off the charming best man at her sister’s wedding. One look at the breathtakingly hot Lincoln Mathis and she knows that he’s exactly the type of man she should avoid. But when Daisy stumbles upon Lincoln’s secret, she realizes there’s more to the charming playboy than meets the eye. And suddenly Daisy and Lincoln find their lives helplessly entwined in a journey that will either heal their damaged souls . . . or destroy them forever.

Praise for Someone Like You

“Lincoln and Daisy’s tale is expertly crafted, full of wit and heart. Layne is equally adept at writing heartbreaking portrayals of grief and scenes of steamy passion that will get hearts racing. Exemplary contemporary romance.”Library Journal

On the plus side, Ms. Layne knows how to write sharp, realistic dialog that develops character and moves the story along. While crisp dialog is difficult to write, it really does make a story much more fun to read and I fond myself more engaged with the characters than I would have been without it. I liked both Lincoln and Daisy but felt that their characters weren't as strong as they might have been with a few different choices in the plot development.

On the downside, I just couldn't completely 'buy' the complicating issue between the two main protagonists. Yes, I understood Lincoln's grief over loosing his fiancé to a for-all-intents-and-purposes fatal car accident two days before their wedding. What I didn't understand was how strongly he clung to that grief more than two years afterward. I have known and understood grief. However, without going into 'spoilery' details, the depth of his ongoing, devastating grief felt like an author's contrivance. As a consequence I felt his character was weaker than it should have been.

With regard to Daisy, I liked her but felt that she should have been a little stronger. She put up with entirely too much from Lincoln with his I'm over it/not over it vacillating. Her quiet, ongoing infernal 'acceptance' of his in my mind, illogical-at-this-late-date grief, made her more passive than I would have liked.

Bottom line: Had Lincoln somehow been responsible for his finace's death, his hair shirt would have made more sense. Instead, it just felt like self-indulgent wallowing. What gets this three stars is the dialog.

Someone Like You An Oxford Novel edition by Lauren Layne Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

So, I was saving this one for when I was in the perfect mood, and I think anyone who is a loyal LL fan (or just a lover of romance in general) knows that you need to be in a certain mood for different type of books. I knew this one was going to gut me, so I had to mentally prepare and I didn't want to be rushed, I needed time to devour each word, have a good cry and come out feeling light and happy. I have to be honest, I do feel happy but I feel like SOMEONE LIKE YOU will be one of LL's books that will stay with me for a LONG LONG time. I absorbed the sadness and the joy and I just don't know what to feel right now. I feel like I need a BIG LONG cry, but it's not that I am sad, I am so happy I think. The end is just INCREDIBLE....I am getting emotional just thinking about it.

Lincoln is a character that for so long lived in a place of fake, always quick with a joke, always flirting, keeping things on the surface, except for the love he had for his friends that had become more like family, but even they didn't know the truth. And lordy, be prepared to just break down, cause you will. The emotions from this book will consume you and you will feel a WHOLE lot from sad to elated, to joy to pain to laughter, and then just happy, you will just be happy, the kind of bawling tears in your eyes HAPPY!

And I have to give LL a shout out for the mention of J.C. and a certain scene that always makes my heart melt.

SOMEONE LIKE YOU is one of LL's best. 5++ stars for this highly emotional, will wrap around your heart kind of a romance.

This is the third book in the Oxford series, now it's Lincoln time and I couldn't be happier!
I loved him since the first time I read about him, he had the player part down to a T, I really believed he was a ladies man, so he fooled me good!

Now the reality is much more painful, he has a secret that nobody could have expected, he is not this carefree guy we thought we knew. Life was unfair to him, and he is still haunted by this event and he is definitely unhappy.

Then comes Daisy, she is sweet and likeable, but she also has a secret she is keeping hidden from everyone. This secret is holding her back, and she has stopped living, staying like a recluse in her big house, not really living her life.

Together they are a match made in heaven, they can't figure out why, and they are fighting it every step of the way, but they just make perfect sense.

Confiding in each other is not as hard as they thought it would be and without realizing it, they start to free themselves from their big baggage.

Unfortunately, life is not fair and still has some challenges for this two beautiful and lonely guys, and they might not be strong enough to withstand what's coming their way.

It's a story about life and loss; about the true meaning of loving someone. The ugly part of the love story, when things don't go as planned and you end up alone with your heart broken and with guilt and fear as your only companion.

It's about learning to love again, even when you thought that everything was lost. Finding happiness again, changing the course of your life for a better one and learning to move on without forgetting.

A beautiful and sad love story.
